The Eggen Valley

The Eggen Valley and the high-altitude plateau above the Etsch/Adige Valley, including the villages of Deutschnofen / Nova Ponente (1,350 meters above sea-level), Eggen (1,280 meters above sea-level), Obereggen (1,550 meters above sea-level), Petersberg / Monte S. Pietro (1,380 meters), and the pilgrimage site of Maria Weissenstein / Pietralba offer among the most breath-taking scenery to be found in the heart of South Tyrol. Hikers and nature-lovers, alike, will be profoundly moved by the natural beauty of this idyllic natural landscape.

To begin with, the Eggen Valley is a virtual El Dorado for hikers. It is crisscrossed by hundreds of kilometers of well-posted trails and paths. The primeval Eggen Valley is characterized by sun-drenched high-altitude plateaus, but also Alpine meadows, as well as such fabled destinations for alpinists as the Rose Garden and the Latemar in the Dolomites. The extensive high-altitude plateaus make this area ideal for outings for the whole family.

The region boasts an extensive bus system enabling hikers to undertake lengthy tours and then return to their starting points in comfort. Bike-enthusiasts can participate in daily guided tours according to their individual performance levels.

Insider's Tip: The Petersberg / Monte S. Pietro 18-hole Golf Course at an elevation of 1,250 meters above sea-level has got to be experienced to be believed.
