Obereggen 1550m

Obereggen is a young Alpine village with a splendid location at the foot of the Latemar. Due to its stunning natural beauty, in June of 2009, it was classified by UNESCO as a World Heritage site. Over the past three decades, its location at 1,550 meters above sea-level, the friendly, inviting natural landscape consisting of meadows, spruce and larch forests, and its magnificent panoramic view of the Latemar, Zanggen, the White Horn and Black Horn all contributed to this neighborhood of the district of Eggen developing into a renowned tourist vacation area. In the late-1960s, the industrious locals built the first aerial lifts for winter sports, supplying the funding themselves. That marked the start not only of the development of Obereggen as a winter sports center, but also the beginning of the tourism sector in this region. The entire economy of this area profited as a result. Today, Obereggen has over 48 km of well-groomed slopes, with an exemplary artificial snow system and the latest aerial lifts. The ski area opens on November 25 at 7:00 p.m. for nighttime skiing for free, and remains in operation until April 15, 2012.
